Suburethral Sling

Suburethral Sling Procedure

A Suburethral Sling procedure is commonly performed to treat Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI). The sling can be a narrow strap made of synthetic mesh or a strip of your own tissue, that is placed under the urethra.

SUI is not caused by psychological stress, but rather a physical movement or activity such as running, sneezing, coughing, jumping, or lifting which puts pressure on your bladder and causes uncontrolled leakage.

A suburethral sling will act as a hammock to lift or support the urethra and the neck of the bladder.
