What is a LEEP procedure?
If your pap test has revealed abnormal cells in your cervix, called dysplasia, your doctor may recommend the LEEP procedure in order to remove those abnormal cells. The LEEP procedure is a 20-30 minute office procedure that allows your doctor to remove the abnormal tissue from your cervix using a fine wire loop with electric current. Not all dysplasia is cancer, but could lead to cervical cancer if you do not get early treatment.
