Obstetric Care FAQs

When should I schedule my first prenatal visit?

Your first prenatal visit is typically scheduled around 7 to 8 weeks of pregnancy. During this visit, we’ll confirm your pregnancy and begin building your personalized care plan. Our Pregnancy Navigator Program is a great resource to help you understand what to expect at each appointment and how your care will progress over time.

What can I expect during my first prenatal visit?

You’ll meet your provider, review your medical history, confirm your pregnancy with an ultrasound, and discuss prenatal vitamins and early pregnancy health. During this visit, your provider will also take baseline lab tests, review lifestyle and nutrition recommendations, and answer any questions about symptoms or what to expect in the coming weeks. It’s the perfect time to start building a relationship with your care team and setting the foundation for a healthy pregnancy journey.

What hospitals would I deliver at?

Our providers deliver at both ProHealth Waukesha Memorial and ProHealth Oconomowoc Memorial Hospitals.

How often will I have prenatal appointments?

Typically, every 4 weeks in the first two trimesters, every 2 weeks in the third trimester, and weekly as you approach your due date (36 weeks and beyond).

Do you provide postpartum support?

Absolutely. We’re here for you after delivery, too. Our postpartum (or “fourth-trimester”) care includes routine check-ups, personalized lactation guidance, and emotional-health support to help you recover and adjust to motherhood. We know those first weeks postpartum can bring physical healing, hormonal shifts, and emotional changes, and we’ll be by your side through it all.

We’ll help you recognize the physical and emotional cues that signal labor is beginning, discuss your birth plan, and ensure you understand what to expect once you arrive at the hospital. We are happy to discuss a pain management plan in line with your goals, which can include various tools to support movement in early labor, hydrotherapy, skilled nurses to assist in positioning, and medication options. Take a look at our sample birth plan for some ideas. Our goal is to make your delivery experience as safe, comfortable, and positive as possible.
